Want to learn how to make my favorite flower in wafer paper?

Ranunculus flowers are a gorgeous springtime favorite with multi-layered petals and long stems. Ranging in color from pastel pinks to fiery reds, they also come in white, cream, yellow, orange, gold and purple. There are over 600 species of ranunculus, and they are a favorite for wedding bouquets and wedding cakes.

Wafer paper is the perfect medium for making a ranunculus due to the paper’s translucency and being so lightweight. You can create a flower with a ton of petals, and the flower will still be light and airy! And much less fragile than a ranunculus in sugar? Yep, that too!

The key to making a great ranunculus is shaping the different layers of petals correctly. Once you learn how to shape petals in a variety of different ways, you can assemble them in any combination to recreate any ranunculus you like! You’ll begin looking at ranunculus flowers in a whole new way because you’ll see how to assess their overall shape, and then make the petals to match!

Along with the Facebook livestream video instruction, this tutorial includes petal templates, and a PDF workbook with a list of all the tools and supplies you will need to make and finish a ranunculus flower. Plus you will have access to me in the group for any questions you may have!

This flower will be easier to make if you have a bit of wafer paper experience, but ALL interested students are welcome…you will get plenty of repetitive practice making petals, so you can improve your skills quickly.

This tutorial includes:

  • Basic introduction to wafer paper conditioning and coloring + make wafer paper glue

  • Making the ranunculus center (*a note to wafer paper purists…we will be using a small amount of gumpaste)

  • How to shape petals for all the layers of a ranunculus

  • How to layer and assemble petals to create a beautiful fully bloomed ranunculus shape (over 3 lessons)

  • Making and adding the calyx + taping and finishing the stem

  • Simple dusting tips to add depth and highlights

  • Tool + supply list, templates, and color suggestions

  • BONUS LESSON : how I color my picotee ranunculus petals (two colorways)

  • BONUS LESSON : analyzing a few ranunculus flowers and their shapes (via photos) so you can see how other versions might be constructed (*note I will not be making these flowers from start to finish, but I will be sharing how I would approach making them + demonstrate more petal shapes you can make to expand your ranunculus repertoire)

  • Q + A and troubleshooting with me during the tutorial AND ongoing in the Facebook group

  • Access to the recordings and materials whenever it’s convenient for you!
