FAQs

Can I order a wedding cake from PETALSWEET?

We’re sorry, we are no longer taking on new clients for cake orders. Since Jacqueline spends most of her time teaching, the infrequent cakes we do make are created for a few long-standing clients and family.

May I order and purchase your sugar flowers and wafer paper flowers?

No, we’re sorry we do not sell our flowers.

Do you teach in-person workshops?

Yes, Jacqueline does teach hands-on workshops for both sugar flowers and wafer paper flowers. As soon as it is safe to resume group classes, we will add them to our schedule and website. We’re always interested in what our students would like to learn, so please send us your ideas through our contact page. We love hearing from you!

Do you have online classes?

We are busy behind the scenes working on some fun online classes for both sugar flowers and wafer paper flowers. Check out the classes page for our current offerings. Please join our email list for future updates!

Where can I buy your sugar flower books?

They are both readily available on Amazon and can also be ordered through most stores where books are sold. Please see our books page for more information and links.

What gumpaste do you use to make your flowers?

We mostly use the tylose scratch recipe created by Chef Nicholas Lodge (you can find it easily by searching online). It dries quickly and has a nice finish! We have also used and experimented with Saracino, Satin Ice, Squires Kitchen, Renshaw, Platinum Paste, The Flower Paste and Sugarin brands. We recommend trying several types of paste to find what works best for you and your environment.

What petal dusts do you use?

Currently we work with two favorite U.S. brands Crystal Colors and The Sugar Art. There are a lot of other great petal and luster dust brands available, especially throughout the UK and Europe, and we love to try a different brand when we find a pretty new color!

What gel colors do you use?

Currently on hand we have Wilton, Amercolor, ProGel, Chefmaster, Fractal and Sugarflair gel colors.

Are sugar flowers and wafer paper flowers edible?

Both types of flowers are created with edible mediums (gumpaste and wafer paper). However, there are also non-edible items used in some flowers including polystyrene balls and floral wire. Therefore, we consider all of our hand-crafted flowers to be used for decorative purposes only.

What is wafer paper? And what thickness do you use for your flowers?

Wafer paper is edible paper made with potato starch, water and vegetable oil. We use both 0-Grade wafer paper (very thin at .22mm), and AD2-grade wafer paper (thin at .29mm). Wafer paper is also made thicker (.60 mm), but this thickness paper is recommended for designs where you will be printing or using painting techniques.
